week 5: The dust has settled and green leaves are sprouting after the first rains!

Ironically, we had our first rains this week. We were woken up in the middle of the night by the most amazing roar of hard rain falling on the tin roof. It continued for hours, and by morning, we could smell the thirsty earth as the water had already started evaporating. Anyone from here will know the exact smell I am speaking of.

I cant believe how green the beautiful bush has turned after just a few hours of rain!

The cooler (still 28-30 degree) weather seemed to calm LJ a lot, and this week he has seemed a lot more settled. We've been on a few treasure hunts, had a lot of fun jumping in warm muddy puddles and have even had our first swim in the rain.

LJ wanted to take his dad fishing at the bream farm, so we set out to do that last weekend. The problem was that, between us, the only one who was happy to handle the worms, was Lily. The guy working there ended up just giving us some of the fish food rolled up with bread to use as bait, that was a lot easier than trying to thread a wriggling worm onto a hook! And the worms did a good job of keeping Lily entertained.

The fishing rods are nice and basic, made from sticks, without reels. Tim was very glad that he didn't have to spend the day untangling fishing lines.

We popped past Tamarind for a swim and a play after a hot day of fishing and LJ spotted an elephant from the jungle gym. Its still novel for us to have them around!

Can you spot the snake? Don't worry, its a green spotted bush snake and NOT a boomslang!

We love taking the kids next door to warthogs to play and explore while we watch the animals going to the lake for a drink at dusk.

It's been a good week for us with bigger smiles and fewer tantrums. I think we're all falling in love with Kariba, just at different speeds.
