Finding our rhythm to the African beat

It would appear that the zebra have become our most regular visitors! They have discovered the bird seeds in the garden. LJ loves to watch them and has found a safe spot in the tree to spy from. He has taken longer to warm up to this way of life than his 'happy go lucky' little sister, but after figuring out more of a routine he finally seems to be accepting it. I didn't realise it would take him so long to adjust and it has taken a lot from us to try help him through all his magnified feelings. I am so grateful for my friends and family who have heard my tears and offered their advice and support!

The other night a hippo came strolling past while we were sitting on the verandah. They seem significantly bigger when they are walking through your garden than when they are a few hundred meters away in the water!

Knowing that Kariba is where one of my besties (Vee) grew up, we decided to venture
out and explore the area that holds so many fond memories for her and her family.

We arrived at the NAU in Charara and discovered an absolute hidden gem. It is beautifully maintained with the most awesome swimming pool. I think we spent about 4 hours in the crystal clear pool. All the buildings and lawns are well maintained but it was strange to see such an awesome place completely empty! I have heard that it fills up quickly in holiday season and when there are events like the famous tiger tournament.

We can't wait to see this place come alive. I imagine it will be similar to watching the brown bush turn green when the rains start!

Lily has none of the caution that her big brother has. This has its positives but it is also quite terrifying when it comes to swimming! She has decided that she doesn't want her arm bands on anymore and she dives into the water like a fearless cowgirl without a second thought. I have even left her to the point of panic to try and deter her but she is very resilient and after she's caught her breath she dives back in.

Don't worry though, I am watching her all the time and I don't trust her one bit to keep herself out of the water! Her protective big brother is very good at keeping the rule that they don't enter the pool area without me or Tim and even if they run ahead of us, he makes sure she stands in line at the gate until we are inside. That rule is firmly in their minds!

Chipstix! It's amazing that after all Zimbabwe has been through, the same treats I remember from my childhood are still around, and even more crazy is that they taste exactly the same and the packaging hasn't changed!

Our daily game drive to fetch Tim from work is always fun, we get to see elephants most days and the kids love to drive past and say hi to the crocs at the croc farm too.

  1. Gee I wonder who your lily takes after? Maybe her resilient, happy go lucky mommy.... miss you 4 crazy kids.
