Hanging around at the pool all day, meeting people, has certainly had its perks. Some days are very quiet, but I reckon its safe to say we have also hit the jackpot with the people we have met. The kindness and generosity we have been shown by them has been overwhelming. 

We had Terrie and Nelson drop off a microwave for us to use and they also had us over to their house for the most delicious Portuguese feast.


Barney and Genene bought us groceries and supplies from Harare when they came through Kariba to fetch their boat.


 

Pod and Jords picked us up to go fishing at the bream farm, on to the water slides, and then back to their house for a Braai.

The wife and son of one of Tims colleagues arrived one morning to meet us and bring some rehydration salts for Tim (Margo and Tom with their son Brandon). Margo also made a plan to pick us up the next day to spend the day at their pool while Tim was in Harare fetching a rental car (WOOHOOO!!) He joined us there for a braai on his way back. The Elephants walked past their house in the evening! 



Tim also made LJ his own hammock fort to hide in when he needs to escape from his sister and calm down. He's loving it!





Suffice it to say that prayers have been answered, and this week has been amazing. We are looking forward to doing some exploring on the weekend!

One last adventure in Zimbabwe...from Kariba to Victoria falls

We couldn't possibly leave Zimbabwe without visiting Victoria falls:  A)  because Brad is there, and  B) because it is spectacular (and pumping after an amazing rainy season) So we set off on, what turned out to be, a rather eventful road trip. Some awesomely generous friends offered for us to use their minivan that they were about to sell... so we ended up having the full 'Zimbabwean road trip experience'...which wouldn't be complete without car trouble! I mean there are worse places in the world to be stranded, that's for sure! We made it to Antelope Park in Gweru on day 1, and when we tried to start the car after checking in there was no response. In true Zimbo style, they called in a local mechanic to come and check it out. While we were waiting for him to fix the alternator we went to feed the elephants, paddled on the river and the kids went for horse rides. First week acclimatising to life in wildest africa

At the craziest time in the history of the new millennium our Little adventurers will be embarking on a new journey to the very remote, beautiful and wild town of Kariba, which is situated next to Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. It is close to the Zambian border. We will be moving for Tim's work: a water treatment project at a local crocodile farm. The excitement of a new experience overshadowed the fear and uncertainty of moving our young family to the middle of nowhere. Lock down in Cape Town proved to us that we can survive on our own, despite being a very social family. The big day finally arrived and after dragging far too many bags and 2 weary kids across the country, we landed in (what LJ identified as) the driest Country in the world. And slight change of plan...spontaneous surprise visit to Cape Town!

After a few slightly manic final days in Malawi, running around doing overpriced covid tests, we managed to make it back to a 'locked down' Zimbabwe. We weren't entirely sure what to expect, but after a wonderful holiday with cousins and family, the thought of being locked down again was a hard pill to swallow. So we toyed with the idea of me taking the kids back to Cape Town for a couple of weeks. It all came together when Tim's boss was happy with the plan and suggested that Tim join us for the 3rd week so that he could attend some team building meetings that they had planned. So off we went! We had to go while our covid tests were still valid and so it was somewhat of a whirlwind trip. Driving from Malawi on the Thursday and then flying to Capetown on the Friday.
